Casa Irma

Spacious, Comfortable, Nicely Priced and Perfect For Kids

Casa Irma is a lovely country house located on a large estate where a nobile house once stood. Today the nobile's house is gone and left behind is Irma, a coat of arms on the door that showed the old nobile claims, a quiet hamlet and cooking traditions of this wee village where families have passed recipes down through the centuries...more on that later. Casa Irma is located near a village with trattoria and cafe.

Casa Irma has been fully restored and offers all the modern comfort. The owner (shall we call her Irma?) took great pains in making sure the old atmosphere and charm of the farmhouse was maintained during the renovation. Her decorations reflect this with a nice collection of folk art like iron farming tools, terracotta pots and jugs, handwoven fabrics that you can find all over the house. All the rooms are decorated with fabrics and old country furniture. The result? An atmosphere both warm and cozy

There are loads of lovely features to Casa Irma...a large stone fireplace that cheers you in the winter, very comfortable furnishings, lots of tools for entertaining, cooking and dining, (the owner loves to entertain), all the ground floor rooms open to the outside garden where a vast space of flowers, fruits trees, olive trees and vineyards beckon. "More," you say? Outstanding Points: BBQ, pizza oven. children's playground, pool and tennis court on property. Screens on windows!!!

Perfect for: Families with kids. Great off season rental too.

What Guests Have To Say

Lovely villa. Very comfortable and clean. There are two eating areas outside. Lots of fun in the pool (there was a lovely inflatable octopus). Situated in nice little village. Easy access to many places from villa. Although the property was adjoined by another it was fenced off and very secluded. There was loads of land for out use. Irma is really nice. She rang me on my birthday and sent a bottle of iced champagne with flowers tied around it.
We had a wonderful happy holiday. There were five of us and we all enjoyed Casa Irma. We did not eat out as we had everything we needed at the villa. Antonio and Nila (who look after the villa) came to cook for us on the night of my birthday. The meal was fantastic and they waited on us and cleared up. It was so good we asked them to come again on our last night and Antonio again cooked a wonderful meal. Can definately recommend that anyone does that. He has a huge menu to choose from so no-one should be disappointed. Antonio and Nila helped make the holiday special.

It was the perfect place for us size wise. Antonio's meal was wonderful and I would highly recommend others plan for that as it is a welcome and relaxing way to arrive. I would also suggest to others that they do some minimal grocery shopping on the Saturday they arrive as there is nothing open on Sunday other than a Rotisserie/pizza place that has good food to go, but might be difficult to find.

A Little on the Region
Just east and north of Pisa through the mountain is the intriguing walled city of Lucca. The walls are the most substantial of all of Italy. Where most walled cities erected high and thin walls some 1 - 2 meters thick, Lucca created a massive moat and walls of some 20 meters thick. Large enough that it now serves as a wonderful promenade for the village people. This is a must - be in Lucca at the time of the "passeggiata" 5:00 - 7:00pm. The town strolls leisurely around the city on top of the wall and along the historic street that encircles the oval piazza anfiteatro, once the location of an oval Roman amphitheater. Julius Ceaser is said to have walked this passeggiata in 85 BC. "Passeggiate" is a delightful Italian custom. All towns and villages have one and allow the informed traveler, to rub elbows with the locals.
