Palazzo Cevoli

Easily One of Our Most Distinguished Properties

May we introduce you to Villa Palazzo Cevoli, a villa vacation that is historic and a luxury rental. We have tracked this villa rental in Cevoli since about 2000 when the owner began a major renovation, completed in about 2005. Once the property of Count Ceuli who was the nobile master of the region in the 1500’s (and the town of Cevolei is now named) this is now your chance to stay in fantastic style with a broad brush-stroke of history. A refined villa/palace and you are moments from the town through the gate. It has all the details you would find for those in high places - vaulted ceilings, frescoed rooms, grand salons, beautiful antique furniture spread with abundance everywhere. Yep, this is the real deal. And a great price too.

Perfect for: Groups seeking some refinement and history. Any walking difficulties, the lift is helpful.

The Details:

Ground floor: Very elegant and vaulted entrance with old Tuscan chests on both sides. A very large living room with a grand piano and a stone fire place from the old times, opening on the garden via a French door. Elegant dining room opening on the garden through a French door, other intimate and frescoed living rooms with fire place and TV, all opening on the garden. A large traditional kitchen with marble-top table, where the cook prepares very delicious typical Tuscan meals. The kitchen opens on a large side terrace. There is a WC on this floor and a laundry room. Elevator (lift) to other floors. Full bathroom with shower.
First floor: An imposing stone staircase leads to the central frescoed high vaulted central salon opening on the elegantly furnished bedrooms and a very large billiard room, and to the top floor, just renovated with a large living maintaining the old terracotta tile and original wood beans. One of those precious places. All of the bedrooms have terracotta and big old beams. There are two doubles (both en suite with showers), 1 twin ensuite (with shower), and then another double and twin that share a hallway bathroom (with a tub/hand held shower).
Top floor: Large living room, 4 double bedrooms each with en-suite bathroom (showers) and all have AC units. There is also a single loft bedroom (good for a nanny) that has AC and ensuite bathroom with shower.

A Little on the Region
Cevoli is a small village with the essentials, but here you are not far from restaurants and such. There are two restaurants that we enjoyed often. One was in Fauglia (the only restaurant there) and the other was about 8-10 minutes away and was called Tremolete. It was run by Sergio and his family, all of whom were very welcoming. Just east and north of Pisa through the mountain is the intriguing walled city of Lucca. Although we are biased on such matters, and may be preaching to the choir, Lucca is arguably the best city in Tuscany. It is also the closest to most of our Lucca based rentals. There are loads of reasons this is a great place to visit (olive oil for example, lack of tourists another). To the benefit of you and the proud locals, Lucca has completely retained the original thick walls around the centro storico. As the wide walls lost their military importance, abruptly ended with the conquering Bonaparte in 1805, no match for his modern might, they became as they are today: a pedestrian only park that rings the city entirely providing a wonderful view of the countryside and city below. Lucca is a perfect place to spend a day, or when you have a little extra time between other touring, you can easily slug it in and never tire of its streets, alleys, sights and shops. It is a perfect place to walk around, the walls not withstanding (in fact for the walls we suggest renting a bike and seeing the city that way - on the walls and off). We fondly call it "Florence without the scooters, people or museums." But still enough great restaurants, piazze, cafes, gelati and upscale shopping to attract the discerning folk. Here is a quick guide to our favorite restaurants (also found in more detail on our recommended restaurants in Lucca page):
Da Giulio, on via Conce Piazza San Donato
La Buca, on via della Cervia
Osteria Baralla, on via Anfiteatro
Antico Cafe, on Piazzale Vittorio Emanuele
