WHY LUCCA
Ever been to Lucca?
Some of you have perhaps made it a quick stop while in Tuscany. Some perhaps have not. But, Lucca is particularly well suited as an Italian vacation destination. First, for the ever popular Tuscany, Lucca is not as touristed as you find in the usual places of central and southern Tuscany....Florence, Siena and a hose of smaller hill towns. This makes Lucca more precious. Yet the location is near the sea and some wonderful, if off the ususal beaten path, sights. Let me name a few, dear reader...
- Versilia and the Northern Tuscan coast.
- Carrara and the mountains of marble.
- Pietrasante (An artist's hangout for those that sculpt marble. The stuff is everywhere!)
- Garfagna and Bagna di Lucca (UNESCO site, I believe).
- Lunigiana (where Tucany/Liguria/Emilia/Romagna meet).
- La Spezia - Portovenere - Cinque Terre. It's a boat ride day trip.
- Pisa.
- Lucca of course.
- Montecatini Terme.
- Montecatini Alta.
- Vinci (Leo's town)
- And the other day trips include Florence, Volterra etc.
Music - home of Puccini with wonderful music festivals in the summer. And the food and wine. Lucca is said to have some of the best olive oil in all of Italy; it's own style of cuisine, grape varieties and an interesting history that brings in a tale of Napoleon and toilet paper. Never thought you would see those two words in a sentence, did you.Further, Lucca is one of the most impressive walled cities in all of Italy. Friendly people as well. There are many, many reasons to make Lucca your destination for Tuscany. But the best is that it's a perfect place for families and groups to share memories for a lifetime.
